Day 80: F: 2154 Sperry '23 (x M: 2670 Thompson '24)

OTT = 447"
Est. Weight = 1,884 pounds
Avg. over last 10 days = 17.8 pounds per day

This image angle is an attempt to replicate the August 2nd image to show the difference over the last month. The challenge to get this image is the balancing act required to get the elevated angle so the proportions are a little off, but in general it provides a good overview.

The plant health as remained consistent and this has contributed to the steady gains. Unfortunately, over the last two years the pumpkins have split by this point in the season so the idea that long term plant health could be maintained has only been theoretical. However, this year is showing that the overall health of the plant can be maintained at least until early September.

The health of the plant is a factor contributing to the gradual decline in pounds per day which is great to see instead of a dramatic drop-off. Still doing teens a day at the end of August is encouraging, and while gains will wane in September, the hope is the lack of big daily gains in July will be compensated with slower, but sustained growth at this point in the season. Having a pumpkin on track for a personal best is all any grower can ask for and it is great to be on that path.

Now, I know many of you will look at the OTT and estimated weight and think the wrong column has been posted. However, the 2013 Team-Pumpkin chart is where the data is coming from. This brings up the question of "why use and old chart?" The answer is that this allows for consistent comparisons from year to year looking back at past data. Also, on the upper end of the OTT's there is actually quite a bit of similarity to the 2025 GPC chart, for example 483" only has a 1lb difference between the two charts.
