May I ask if those were left on for overflow so the bigger one wouldn't split? Great mad scientist garden!

They didn't appear to be pollinated. They were on a delayed fuse, not growing until recently... Like what Altitude was posting in his diary. I'm not worried about splits from excess energy this plant has a half dozen other tomatoes.

Fyi I cut them off. Kept her from reaching 24" (not really) but it's true she does measure only 23". So only big enough to impress the general public.

Ok thanks. I saved every mega all the way up which resulted in several growing on same plant. I wasn't sure which to cut or keep. Ill have a better idea next year after studying the result of each to maturity. Nothing better than just under 3 lbs thus far but with 10+ growing per plant I guess that makes sense. Growing regular tomatoes in the garden the last 25 years I have seen enough splitting. I want to avoid that when I grow em bigger. Excess sinks are not necessary I take it

Oddly enough I haven't seen random splitting the way a round tomato might split. The accordion/ pleating shape of the dominoes probably has more to do with that than any other factor. Perfectly round tomatoes are the most susceptible to splitting. One of my very round giants may have absorbed water & skin split once, but not enough to DQ it. They have to be leaking to DQ them.

I was concerned that radial type splits might occur when you grow them big ie 5+lbs. As usual, im worried about nada :-)
