My plants tend to keep growing because I get lazy this time of year. I try to coast on the backside of the seasoon and I am sure it costs me some pounds at the scale. I think the best melon growers do set boundaries that they don't allow the plants to cross and prune anything that grow over the boundary line.... or they keep the plant very small and structured from day 1, train a main vine, pinch tertiaries. Set fruit on a main vine etc. A plant pruned like that is much more manageable in terms of late season growth. I may have to give the "pumpkin pruned" plant a shot next year.

I have kept boundaries and have layers of vines I am thinking too much. Now trying to stop what seems to be excess growth.
