Norfolk Plant Sciences in the UK put snapdragon genes into a tomato. But they only released a small cherry tomato. Myself and another guy are trying to trying to use natural breeding to make a larger version of their lab creation... The grandma to this tomato was red and weighed a little over a lb. Size seems to be recessive so it may take a few more generations of breeding to get it to be XL sized. At which point Norfolk will still own the patent and we would need to pay royalties to distribute what is legally still their product. That's up to my friend to work that out with them or not. So the project may get shelved but meanwhile its interesting.

Cynically, I think its a novelty not a necessity. I think ordinary tomatoes already have plenty of antioxidants, which was the purported claim for this variety. But on a neutral or positive note, maybe it is better use of genetic technology than putting pesticides into corn, and roundup ready genes into everything. I'm allergic to all the plants that have the roundup ready gene into them so I'm certainly not a fan of that technology.
