I hate to guess, but guessing a zinc/sodium issue. Sodium here is likely around 500 ppm. Zinc getting locked out by phosphorus or something. Perhaps the sodium is locking the zinc out. There should be some zinc in the soil but...
Well, just a plausible theory. There's a way to find out that doesnt require a PhD: Give it zinc and see if it goes away.

Both good guesses, thanks.
Glyphosate applied nearby last year, so awhile ago, but it also matches with where excess sodium may have been brought to the surface.
The next cure all will be some some sort of humic or soil biology tea.
Also I really appreciate Dan S. 'Organic Gardening Homesteading Woodworking' videos because I'm in his backyard now (well I'm an hour away). I do have a mountain to climb here but using his videos as a map I'm not totally lost, I think I see where I'm at and where I need to go.
