In addition to the 3 competition plants I have 4 other plants going that are intended to grow some porch pumpkins and do some experiments with. They were started about 3 weeks later than the competition plants and did not have hoop houses and are receiving minimal care. I applied 2 different pre emerge herbicides to see what effects they would have. So far they are not seeming to effect the pumpkins but also have not held the weeds back as well as they should. I think excessive rain after application had negative effects on the herbicide performance. They are getting some water from impact sprinklers, got urea and granular boron and are getting fungicide and insecticide when I spray the competition plants. Two of these plants have been claimed by my 6 year old son, I'm hoping we can get him to 1000 lb and take to a weigh off. This is a 2196 Zappa
