I’m very sorry to share that Kevin Kearns unexpectedly passed away peacefully on Dec 26th. His wife Anne asked that I share this with our pumpkin growing community, which he was passionate about for so many years. There will be visitation hours on January 5th 2-3:30 at Dolans, North Chelmsford MA.
Kevin lived in the next town over from me in Westford MA, and it was at his house on Halloween 2013 that I first saw a giant pumpkin in real life. So I caught the bug from him. Over the years Kevin and I have been an informal season beginning-and-end team: I’d start his plants for him in April, and he’d help me lift my pumpkins in the fall. He was a member of the NEGPGA, NHGPGA, and SNGPG and when he was at the fairs he was always there on the lifting teams helping out. I really appreciated his joy for pumpkins and for carving as many as he could into jack-o’-lanterns at the end of the season for the neighborhood to enjoy, and really appreciated his friendship. I'll put a photo of Kevin in my diary from the beginning of a recent season.
Rest in peace, Kevin.

I'm very sorry to hear of this and my deepest condolences to all whom knew him. Sorry, but was he on BigPumpkins.com? That'd put a name to a name for me if so. Again, very sorry for our loss. Eric Gerry/pumpkinpal2

Pumpkinpal2 - he went by klancy on bigpumpkins, and used to be quite active. Here's a link to his profile and diaries: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/BPuserProfile.asp?uid=41842

So sorry to hear the news. Kevin was a great guy, always willing to help out at all the weigh offs he attended. He was one of the hardest workers in the arena helping to strap up all the pumpkins. He’ll definitely be missed. Rest in peace.

He was a terrific guy. He was always happy and friendly to everyone in the pumpkin community. At most weigh- offs you would always find him helping out with the lifting crew.
It's very sad.

I miss Kevin. He was a friend and long term grower, who I always looked forward to talking to at the Patch Tours and of course at The Topsfield Fair

I am sorry to hear that, "Klancy" was on this site for many years! I never met him in person.
