These are the silver bullet seeds (that I think) have helped us make the jumps in weight over the years. In order. An older grower might be able to go back further than that 998 pukos, 1068 wallace, 1385 jutras, 1725 harp, 2009 wallace, 2145 mcmillan,1885 werner, 2365 wolf, and ????????

Hmm. How about a pretend gane of "who wants to be a millionaire"?
oj65 you're in at $500,000! ...Excluding the 2907 dmg... Which has grown more 2k pumpkins, the werner or the mendi?

I would say the 2907 is completely valid in all discussions, not only because of whom grew it, but that it was real, regardless of its classification. If it were down to one to win or not, it'd still seem appropriate to me. My nickel's worth, lol. eg

The 2907 Paton was a great pumpkin but so far its kinda going the route of the 2307 Wallace.

Oj You already got the top three correct. I think 4th is the Mcmullen and 5th is the Gienger.
Regarding 2nd and 3rd place... the Mendi or the Werner? Which gets silver vs bronze medal for growing 2k pumpkins...??

1st place @ 32 pumpkins over 2k is the 2365 Wolf. Thats a lot of 2k pumpkins.

1885.5..2365..2560..(I did not research wheres the fun in that) I remember a little while ago I felt like the Werner was the driving line to the recent weight increases. That feeling came after earlier this fall, someone asked if OTT was in need of review. At that point rough calculation put 96/100 top pumpkins this year had 1885.5 genetics either parents or grandparents. I feel its safe to say 2365 is the next pusher. The million dollar question is what cross is going to create the hot seed (the pusher) There are some serious contenders available after this year. It is possible, maybe more than likely the cross has already made. Time will tell. I have no idea I will leave that work up to the heavy hitters.

By my count (perhaps I cant count) the 1885 werner and 2183 mendi are actually tied! At twenty-two 2k pumpkins each!
So the final question, for $1 million is, which of these top three seeds (the Mendi, the Werner, and the Wolf) has the highest RATE of 2k pumpkins, in other words # of 2k pumkins per times that it was planted?
(Insert trivia game music or sound effect here)
This is like a baseball stat, like a slugging percentage or on base percentage...
Hint: This pumpkin stat is in fact close to what a good batting average would be in baseball. (Not much of a hint, perhaps, but an interesting coincidence anyhow.)

I meant that the 2907 is a valid result of the 1885.5, not a contender in this contest. eg

For me, both Werner and Wolf are above 2183. :) But the problem I see is that there are many DMG pumpkins and some with strange shapes, and I don't like that very much. But I know that any daughter of 1885 and 2365 can do it very well. (2907, 2749, 2702..) For me the 2183 x 1885 crossing is very good too, like the 2144 Barron. And 2465 too is good cross

So the $1 million question... truthfully its not clear because the statistics dont say how many times a seed was planted. Its possible the Werner was planted more than the Mendi but for some reason a lot did not make it to the scale. So using the baseball analogy the on-base percentage for the Mendi might be higher because it has more pumpkins reported than the Werner. Or maybe the growers who planted an 1885 are such good growers that they left all the "smaller" ones at home in the patch and didnt take them to a weigh off. A top grower might leave a 1500 lb pumpkin at home in the patch and never weigh it. To them, its small. But other than these odd considerations, I can say that the Werner and Wolf are tied, in slugging percentage (2k+). I kinda lost track but there might be a pumpkin out there that has grown a rediculous number of 2k pumpkins percentage wise like 4/6 or 66% were above 2k. Youll have to do your own research because I lost track of which one that was.
On a final note, the The 2465 Sperry and 2198 Sperry are worth a look because one is the reverse of the other, and between both of them they've got an excellent 2k average. They're looking as good as the Werner or Wolf. Alas, the stats are not yet revealing anything better. Unless you find that one slipped away from me when I was stat surfing! No guarantees. Maybe I fell asleep, and it was just a dream.

I like the Barron seed because it has the Mendi in it!
That being said my own patch wont have room. Ive got a 2020 Paton... Pugh seeds... an Uhlmeyer seed.
