While a new WR wasnt set, it seems like growers are fattening up their pumpkins more than ever... 7 of the top 20 all-time heaviest pumpkins were grown in 2024. Also, by looking at the photos of them it appears there continues to be as diverse a gene pool as ever. There's a wide mix of color, shape, and % hvy traits in the recent 2400+ lb pumpkins, despite the lineages being derived mostly from the same seeds. A range of areas (states and countries) are getting great results, so there dont appear to be any one specific limiting factor. Pumpkin growing has not yet become beset by discouraging limitations, like "well I dont have as much daylight as Alaska, so I've got no chance." Even Colorado is in the game now! On that note, greenhouses may help, but again its possible to rig up something with pvc or 2x4s and (maybe) not even break the piggybank. The plants dont care how juryrigged your setup looks, they know it aint a beauty contest...
Anyhow, it wasnt a bad year for pumpkin growing?!
Now, lets see about 2025...
