When you cut pumpkin off vine does it loose weight? What suggestions, first year growing giants, stressful! Lol

Yes, as soon as you cut it, it starts looses weight from evaporation. Some wrap it tight in plastic, Some at water bottles to the cut vines.

Its about a pound a day on a decent pumpkin. Keep it cool, moist and water bottle it to help save all that you can.. if you need to.

Thanks, figure load and travel time with weigh in, so maybe try water bottle

I weigh when we harvest and I can say .... with no doubt you will loose 7 pounds the first 24 hours and about 3 to 4 more per day after even when water bottled and wrapped in plastic with wet towels and blankets under the plastic... no plastic or wet sheets is about 8 a day... even more if uncovered going 80 mph to a weigh off so cover wrap and bag the vines to minimize the water loss..

i kept main vine on on both sides fairly long (makes it easier) n i used 4 litre milk jugs.
