Disease from inside or the outside? I had my biggest fruit go down the exact same way.
Sad to see.
Mine was touching the soil that I couldn't see until the small leak started happening.

I think it just broke itself by growing its blossom area up into the meat of the top layer. It was not the blossom that split. The bad spot is about 5 inches from the blossom. I have not had a chance to cut into it yet. Too busy getting another pumpkin at the opposite end of the greenhouse ready to be loaded Thursday.
