I have a 12 DAP elongated pumpkin that a few guys say will abort due to its shape and early ribbing. Does anyone have any info or experience with this. It seems shiny, healthy, and is growing very well on a daily basis.

Do these guys know what they're talking about..AG growers?? Pic would really help! As long as its shiny and growing let it go you can always cull it later.

It may indicate some issue, or it may not...? Can't know for sure, really...

Don’t see where I can send the pic as an attachment. I found what both these guys said questionable. Never heard early ribs mean it’s going to abort. Message was in Back Yard Giant Pumpkins on Facebook. I have a pic of it there.

I have one that started like what yours sounds like but now at about 35 days it's growing low and wide with shallow ribs and is smooth and shinny.

In the event that you wanna start a Grower Diary to submit pics and your own descriptions to in order for you and others to see how you're doing, Grower Diaries are viewable from the top-left, Main Menu on the Home Page. Shortcut: https://www.bigpumpkins.com/bpweb/MobileDiaryAdd.aspx If the pic is wherever you can find it on your desktop, fill in the blanks including that and hit 'Submit'. I dunno about the Smart Phone procedure, butt I'll guess that's relatively similar. Unless you are a Premium Member, it may take about a day to show up, give or take. Good Luck---eric g

In my experience those are certainly more likely to abort or not grow normally. But really who knows? At this point in the season just relax and see what it does. If it is growing and shiny that is everything!!!

Joe. I was one of the guys that said that. Matt Raddack posted a pic of one 2 Weekes ago that was ribby and had a huge blossom nub. He asked the same question. I said it will not grow good from my experience with them. He culled it because he did have another one pollinated. He cut it on half length wise and behold, it had massive cracks on the inside. I cut one off 2 days later and it also had massive cracks on the inside. Other growers have let them grow and they always seem to not grow hood and get deformed. 15 years of experience speaking. I did not tell you to cut it off. My suggestion was to get another one pollinated. If you have a nice, good sized plant, you have plenty of time to grow a 700# fruit. Good luck!!

Thanks. It’s still growing well so I’m not going to cut the other one just yet. I’ll figure out how to post pics now
