Opinions? I had such small females on one plant... but now the pumpkin on that plant doesnt seem inferior to the others. On another plant, I had a female that was half the size of the other female, both opening on the same day, but later on I see the small females is perhaps just a day behind the other in terms of size... and it could end up nearly as large as the other one (although tracking 1 day behind)? What do you think?
I'm thinking the initial flower size doesn't indicate quite as much as I had assumed.

I'm still a little bothered by the 'Hole Shot' ruling of such as in Top Fuel drag racing, where a faster car can be beaten by a slower one based on the reaction time of the other driver and therein a sooner finish-line arrival...by my perception of it, anyway. The first pumpkin I poll'd this year was the 113 Gerry on about 7-2 and that is maybe my second-biggest now, being maybe almost? surpassed by the 236 which was poll'd on about 7-11 and each are prolly geared for different end results & from different seeds, etc. Rambling further, it is disheartening to pollinate a flower that is smaller, wimpier and seems disadvantaged, but knowing that it doesn't matter...helps, lol. PS---It sure seems that a plant that is well-in-sun and 'knows' that it is well-cared-for presents bigger and more-'open-for-business' flowers, esp. during their favorite hours. eg

If you want a big dog, pick the puppy with big feet. But then there are nuances and you're like, 'is this really always the case?' What if puppy A is ____ what if puppy B is ____.
Lol. Fill in the blank... there's still stuff we dont know, or at least I don't know.

Usually the flowers on the secondary vines seem bigger to me than the ones we get on the main vine

Good point Big Moon, and side vine polls often start out the gate faster till about DAP15-20. Then when the big weight comes it's the main vine pollinations that take over even on the smaller flowers.

I find mostly each plant varies in flower size from other plants, but the flowers on that plant are largely similar.

But also, my previous PB (or current till this fall lol) was one of the smallest at pollination and even day 10 that I'd ever seen.
