It is with the deepest sense of loss and sadness that we announce that Ron Root passed away yesterday 7/18/25. Ron endured numerous health issues but always toughed them out in the patch. Ron contributed so much to the entire pumpkin world, as a grower, as a mentor to many, as a judge for all the best weighoffs. His wisdom and great advice will be sorely missed. Ron’s sister, Karen, had asked to receive texts about Ron but the response has been huge so the family is setting up an account to receive and send stories about Ron. We will update as soon as that is ready. The family is going to put together a memory book and would very much appreciate any stories you want to share for the book. We will update as soon as that is ready. Funeral arrangements are pending. Rest in Peace in Pumpkin Paradise Ron!!!
7/20 addition: the Root family has created an email address. They request that you send them any thoughts or stories you would like to have included in his memory book. They may also use some of the material in a memorial service they are working to put together. Here’s the email: [email protected] Let’s help the family by sending our best thoughts and memories of Ron! Brian

Many moons ago Ron and I spent hours together loading all the fruit onto the scale at half Moon Bay. I knew him but not that well. After that log day ( HMB ) weighs 70 to 80 pumpkins I got to learn a whole different side of Ron. What a special person and I got to hear a lot of old school stories being very priceless to me!
Rest in peace and I'll see you up there one day healthy, excited every day and playing in your greenhouse that's going to make the Pattons greenhouse look like a tiny little house!:)
