I am curious what you think about the pros and cons of spreading manure now versus mid March. Thanks

Hey Norm, here are my thoughts; If it is fully composted, I think it would be OK to add now because it is more stable and the nutrients are less apt to just wash away over the winter. If it is still fresh it might be better to let it compost for a bit over the winter and spread in the spring. Opinions may differ a bit , but overall my rule of thumb for things is to do them when I have the chance.

I had good luck just making a pile out in the patch about this time, then spreading it in the spring. This way, there's a little extra time to break down and it's already onsite and ready to spread whenever it's convenient.

Whatever keeps the worms steadily fed... but that advice mostly applies to no-till.

Always good to know the C:N ratio of your compost prior to using. Any compost added this time of year will leach nitrates, potassium, etc...from rains. It would provide a layer of insulation over the soil and reduce any potential erosion. There's pros and cons.
