Farming- a bunch of catastrophies that result in a lifestyle
|
Id be interested to see how others who did winter AG projects did, and what you learned. This was my first year with AG's in the patch, and as a winter project. I learned: - i baby my plants ALOT. The two I grew went through hell and are going strong. - AG's will grow a pumpkin with alot less then I thought. Mine had the right 'food', but only 60 sq ft of dirt. While neither pumpkin will set a record, I now have the seed crosses I wanted. - Pumpkins prefer wood heat to oil heat. I didnt get fungus or fungus gnats till i switched to oil.

*Blushes* Awww, thanks. I learned ALOT. It was also really cool to be up close and personal with the plants. Lots of things you notice when they are at eye level that i never did from above. ( my benches are waist high, so their leaves were eye level)

Thats how you learn best Leisha....get to know the plants....with time like a pet dog you will see the signs earlier....you will understand their needs through changes in weather and changes in the 3 plant cycles being vegetative, pollination and setting, and pumpkin growth (also broken into 2 cycles in my book...day 1-40 and day 40 to 100 if all goes well.)
Great job on your project and thanks so much for hard work and sharing pics and info with me....I have enjoyed it and had fun....I wish you the best

Shazzy- excellent point. I remember being 'lost' last year in the patch about the 3 cycles, after this winter project that's something that is so easy to understand now having got to watch it up close and personal. I 'get it' now, so to speak. I haven't had time, but will do it this afternoon- and send you the picture of the new set on the 1546- it's a lot faster/stronger, better color than the first one. I also think I know what happened to first set. Too much N. I looked at calendar and realized I fed them about 3 days before the baby fell off. Lesson learned. :} new babies go hungry!
