Hi all.
In the 2013 season, 1789 seed has not been as successful as I expected. Are any of you aware of pumpkins splitted during the season? I have grown 1789 plant this last season and i have to say that it was a really stron one until it foamed up When the pumpkin was 14 days old. Due to stump foaming I had to cut the main vine losing 4 secondaries per side.
When I had pulled the damaged plant i was impressed from the axil foliar roots that looked like bunches of roots.
The mein vine was damaged (lymphatic channels were browned)and despite all the pumpkin has reached the weight of 1278.6 lb at 88 days old.
I think that 1789 have a great potential!
I will grow it again in 2014 (if that seed will germinate).

The 1789 plants that Ive seen have also had very aggressive rooting.

We lost our 1789 Wallace @ day 40 (Aug 1st) to a rib split (no dill ring). It was estimated just under 1000# at 986#. It had the potential to go very big. We would plant the 1789 again if we could. It was easily the fastest growing pumpkin that we have ever planted.

Hello Guys.
It seems that not much growers has been planted the 1789 seed this year!?! ;-)
In my case it was not completely orange pumpkin (partly orange, partly yellow and partly light green). What tipe of results in your case? I ask to have an 'indication because I used in 1789 as a pollinator on all crosses of mine.
I pollinated my 1789 with the 1495 it become my Cutrupi 1278.6 '13 (1789Wallace x 1495Stelts) +1% UOW I also made the revers cross 1234.5 Cutrupi '13(1495Stelts x 1789Wallace) +12% UOW-DMG (a skin split hited the ground causing rot).
I'm very happy with this crosses. What do you think about?
If anyone wants to try these crosses, write to:

The 1789 was a very fast grower putting 40 to 50 lbs a day.
do to a rookie mistake it went down. It was est. at 1168 lbs. It was about 55 days old and still putting on 30 lbs. a day with 35 days to go till weight off.
wish I knew then what I know now.

My 1789 was a great plant. I lost my main due to a foamer (my fault!)on August 11th,& 1000 sq.ft. of plant! & still managed a 1512 from her! I will definitely grow her again, thinking of what it could have been! I did self it, hoping to retain the genetics of a great seed. I will try mine & an original if I obtain another. It wasn't called the Freak for no good reason! I just fumbled w/ mine a little!!
