Since I know you Northern Hemisphere growers will be getting bored during your winter, I will have a few competitions during the next few months to hopefully stop some of that boredom.
So here is the first contest. Guess the weight of the marrow, new pics in my diary.
Rules
The contest will end once the marrow is officially weighed and pic is in my diary. Will be this week.
The winner is the closest guess without going over.
The marrow will be weighed in kg and converted to lbs, so guesses will be in lbs.
Only one guess per person.

The winner will be sent seeds out of all my biggest veggies grown this Season and/or new Australian record veggies. Plus my best pumpkin crosses made 2013-14. ( If they have seeds ) Also a couple of seeds out of the biggest pumpkin grown in Australia 2013/2014. Plus a few other nice seeds from my collection.
Tip the current Australian marrow record is 46.4 lbs.

What's with the .2, .5 ,.7, etc. guesses when in the OP he says it is the weight in pounds not tenths of pounds are those guesses gonna count when the result is rounded to the nearest pound as stated in the OP ??

JDFan, he also mentioned that it will be weighed in kilograms, but that does not exclude that the scales could show an additional decimal place.

Another attempt of an explanation: AG weights in the GPC lists are reported in pounds (and therefore you read weights such as 955.5 lbs) and that is fine. If weights were reported in tenths of pounds, the same weight would read 9555 * 1/10 lbs.

pipster did not mention any rounding to full pounds.

@pumpking -- Yes but he did say "so guesses will be in lbs." not tenths of pounds so was just wondering if all guesses were supposed to be in pounds also ? Would hate to see someone guess in pounds as asked for and lose to someone that posted a guess in tenths of pounds - so was just looking for a clarification (ie. if there is a guess of say 50 and another of 50.5 and the weight is 50.5 which wins since the OP asked that "guesses will be in lbs.") Was just wanting to avoid any confusion when the winner is announced !

Sorry for the confusion, guesses can be (example 40.6 lb ). I forgot to add that to the rules, but assumed guesses would be in tenths of lbs. Thanks JDFan for pointing it out. The winner will be the closest to tenths of lbs without going over. (Eg 40.6 )but if the final weight is 40.9 lbs and somebody has guessed 40 lbs and another guess 40.6 I will give both people a prize.

"ive never understood why people dont add the link to their diary to the post"

Only takes a few seconds to find it and they are offering something that is worth the small amount of effort to find !! But if you really need a link then here you go : http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryView.asp?season=2013&grower=36196&action=L

Dear baitman, in addition to what JDFan had pointed out (and which also reflects my opinion on such fun things), another reason is that pipster had loaded some new pics of the marrow into his diary, which just hadn´t been up at the time he opened the "guess the weight contest" and I am sure he wanted people to check out the latest pics of the marrow rather than pointing at a too preliminary pic. Also, I´m pretty sure that pipster doesn´t have the time for posting pics and message board entries every day, and because of the short time left until marrow picking he most likely wanted to open the "guess the weight contest" better sooner than later.

The scales did show 27.2 kg (one decimal place), and that means the weight was in between 27.151 and 27.249 kg so that rounding made the scales show 27.2 kg. Hence, we cannot exclude that the marrow could have been as heavy as 60 lbs, because 60 lbs is 27.22 kg and thus within this range of rounding and for a 60 lbs marrow the scales must have shown 27.2 kg.
tallcorn, thank you for pointing that out. I´ll get in touch with pipster and we´ll see what we can do ;-)
