Lime's chemical make up is Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3). While the primary purpose of lime application is for adjusting pH, a secondary effect is the addition of Calcium to the soil mineral profile.
However, as many are aware, if the goal is enhancing calcium levels, gypsum is often a preferred source as it does not have an effect on pH.
Lime is often added along with various nitrogen fertilizers in agricultural systems as a means to neutralize the acidifying effects of N ferts.
High-magnesium Lime (dolomitic lime) can be used as a source of magnesium in low magnesium soils, however you will also experience pH modification with this form of lime.
Beyond that, Im not aware of other reasons to use Lime.

Lime is added to clay soils to improve tilth. A quick net search should bring lots of info on this.
