The covercrop that I planted this year, a mixure of 50% rye, 40% oats, and 10% vetch is not doing very well at all. The cover is growing in dense clumps. Should I till it in? The weather is still warm. Also, should I seed rye this time around? It did well in my patch last year. Thank you!

Ok theres a technigue to hand sowing or itll be pathchy.sorta like throwing a frisby &let seeds fan out.flip your rake over move it side to side a bit while pulling back lightly.&try to do in straight lines without crossing already raked.

What you probably did is raked all of the seed into little piles. When you rake you need to do it very lightly and make sure you go in both directions. After you pull the dirt toward you you need to push it back in the other direction. I wouldn't till it in. Just sow some more rye over the top in the bare spots.

Triticale with 33 seeds per square foot would be best now.
