This year I am growing some hot peppers. I have some Carolina Reapers, Trinadad Scorpion and 7 Pots growing in my patch. They seem to be doing quite well, lots of peppers. The Reaper is said to be the new King of Hot with over 2 million scoville units. Anyone ever had experience with these or how to go about tasting them? I have heard that if you eat a Carolina Reaper you should first lie down on your bed and dial 911. I was thinking about trying them out on a few of my neighbors or in-laws or maybe Iceman. Any thoughts?

I would pick up some extra Scott tissue Marv.. good luck with those... I have a bunch of Ghosts in my patch.. pumpkins don't like our weather but they sure do.. I think you should bring a pot of chilli to Sams Club to spice things up a bit.

It is not a pretty site..It involves mucus flowing from your eyes, nose and mouth. Like someone being poisoned

I Love hot food and grow 6 kinds of peppers. My son has a couple more. Habenero is the hottest I think (Jalepeno, Serrano, Fresno, Tabasco, Cayenne, Thai are the others) ....and its so stinkin' hot I don't why we even grow that one. I was cutting some of it up one time to put in a big pot of chili when a piece popped up off the cutting board and landed in the corner of my left eye.
Now THAT is pain.

I have a few of the Trinidad Scorpion Moruga, and 7 Pot Brain Strain. Lots of peppers on the plants. I grew then as a novelty, I'm no fire eater. I'm going to send some to my brother and my friends who call me a wuss for not being able to handle hot stuff. Wait till they get a load of these babies!

Seems funny till you're racing someone to the emergency room. Don't give to anyone unannounced. Even those you hate.

Chuck Baugh from Custom Biologicals (Biotamax) has experience with the hot stuff. It's my understanding that this stuff is no joke and should DEFINITELY not be used as such.

Last year, I just licked one of my Bhut Jolokia. I suffered during 45mn...amazing pain ! Don't try if you have digestif problems or hemorroides...it can be really dangerous. One of my friends went to hospital for a pancreas problem after tasting a jolokia.

They are pretty. Maybe they should just be used as ornaments? They may be too hot to even use in pepper spray.

Ice cubes. Bowl of ice cubes. Place on tongue. Swish in mouth. It does help some.

Is milk or cream not the most effective in puttng out the fire? Something that coats is better than spreading it around.

Anyone see the Man vs. Food show when Adam Richmond was eating wings, burger or something that had an extremely hot pepper paste? He made the kneejerk reaction and rubbed his watering eyes in the middle of filming. That was all she wrote.

Loved that Finland video, we have a great one of ours kids and their friends doing a eat the whole Jalapeno contest from when they were about 12 or 13. Boys were shamed, a girl won the contest.
The link pasted above is a nice write up on peppers history and uses etc I read a while back and was able to find again. Apparently the Bhutanese eat so many peppers there is a national issue with stomach and intestinal problems from the peppers. I like hot food but there is a limit But as Janis Joplin said, "anything worth doing, is worth over doing!"

Chuck Baugh sent me some Ghost peppers. I nibbled a matchhead sized piece off one and drank a quart of milk over a half hour to stop the burning. I thought my head was going to explode.

Ice cubes trick the body into thinking the temp is coming down. The capsaicin is binding with the nerve receptor that is responsible for determining temperature. It's all in our heads but our heads don't know that so it sends the proper responses to deal with a bad burn.
I tried icecream first though. It seemed like a waste of good food though. Tongue was numb and my shirt was sticky. Eating something does wash it away a bit..
My wife showed some off to her cousin, the smartass grabbed one and bit into it. She could hear it crunch, and she stared at him waiting for the inevitable....yes, he believes in the power of the pepper now!

I am hoping to have lots of seeds after the season is over. Anyone wanting some should contact me then. I am not sure how many seeds are in each pepper and whether I might need Hazmat uniform to harvest the seeds.

Note-per pod bank on about minimum10-15 easy to get seeds that dont require 10 minutes of digging per seed, and wear gloves

each pod will usually have a dozen or 2 seeds - f you touch as Spence mentioned be sure to wear gloves (Nitrile are much better than Latex as the pepper oil will get through the latex) - also be sure if you need to take a bathroom break while processing take off the gloves and put on a fresh pair to be safe -- even a small amount of oil from the pods left on your hand can make you suffer for a long while if you touch the wrong place !
