It also depends on your soil type. Sandy soil will require a lot more water than a clay soil type.

I have three different drip tape systems in my patch for the different soil types. One system runs one hour a day. The second runs 1 hour 15 minutes a day, the last runs one hour two times a day. All this in the same patch, so it is very hard to determine how much water someone else needs in their patch.

We have reduced our amount of water from previous years & have noticed that we are having a little better results from last year. Our soil is a clay loam on the top 12", with clay & rock below that. Overwatering can have a real negative effect, but unless you check it, you'll never know. We are currently watering every other day, instead of daily & decreased our amounts by close to 15 - 20%. Every patch & soil is different though, so testing it over a 2 month period will give you a better idea on what is happening 6-8" below the surface. Steve Deletas gave a great talk in Vegas last winter about watering & testing & it really opened my eyes. Just look at his 2012 results & you'll see what I mean. I suggest you get some sort of moisture meter & see what is happening with your soil. It will take time to figure out for sure your needs, but in my opinion it's worth checking into it.
Good luck. Jane & Phil

Hi roger-
Soil type is the key factor. I know of two patches, one waters almost 3x as much as the other and both are watering the right amount. As an interesting twist, both are in the same state you are and as you know CT is not very large;-)
General rule of thumb...
sandy base will require more water clay base will hold more water, so water less
Moisture meter is a good idea just make sure it is installed properly to ensure accurate readings. Basically just read the instructions;-)
