Farming- a bunch of catastrophies that result in a lifestyle

Didn't know weather to put this question in the new grower forum or here, but seems like more of you come here to the general.
I had to cut off Green monster this morning, I actually cried- at day 16 he weighed......123 pounds. he was still growing 2" a night as of this mornings taping. However, even with the sulfur, daconil, and patching the hole it was still rotting. I saved out the seeds that were dark yellow and firm, there were a few. Is there a way to tell if the seed is mature short of planting? What are the guidelines for drying seed and saving it?

Wash and Dry, when the skins fall off. Dry them one more day. Only way to know if they are viable is to plant one

It is nice to know that someone else gets as emotional as I do when catastrophies hit the patch. LB, I, too, sat and sobbed when squirrels ravished my main vine a few weeks ago....but in reading the book "Backyard Giants", about the Wallaces, I now appreciate what REAL loss is in the patch!!!! Your loss of that big guy comes very close!!! My condolences, really!!! And the best for the remainder of this season....it does seem to be a challenging one for a lot of folks!!!
