So it was June 21st and I had a pumpkin perfect shape set at 6ft out but I know the Goldilocks zone is between 9 and 12ft so I was waiting for the next female and it never came so I have no choice but to go with it, right now its around 60lbs.

Im not looking for no WR but would like to reach the 1000lb mark......any one ever hear of one that close to the main root getting that big ? Also does any one out there know the reasoning of why it should be out farther from the main root ?

No, grab your gun or neighbors gun and go out there and start shooting that dam thing! not 9 ft!! joking. The heavy hitters say at least 10 ft, I have one set at ten feet right now.

I grew a 1079 pounder last year on the fourth side vine from the stump.

Prolly to get more plant behind the pumpkin. Go with what you can at this time in the year.

Kurty, that's awesome. Hope I can do the same this year.

The 1079 was pollinated by the bees not before July 27.

Kurty, how far out on that side vine were you and did you just have the side vine or did you train terts as secondaries off that particular side vine?

I was going to pull the whole plant. I removed two secondary's on each side by the stump. That is when I notice the pumpkin. The pumpkin was about three feet from the main. I grew the plant in a Christmas tree shape. There was 18 feet of plant ahead of the pumpkin. No terts, as they were all removed. I was planning to pollinate on the main vine. Had it not been the 1409 miller I would have pulled the plant. I was hoping to get some seeds from it, and I did.

By September 12 it was 1016 lbs. That's 21 lbs. a day for 48 days.
