How long do you have to wait DAP before cutting the blossom off. I had one on the 2009 looking like it was going to rot so I cut if off. Not much growth after that.

No cutting involved.Blossom will fall off after a few days.Don't leave flower tied up too long.Probably where your rot is coming from. After one day cut blossom back abit for air flow Best of luck Leines

the rot may have got inside, or the pumpkin may have just not taken....how old is it? How big?
We always remove the petals (not the button) from the blossom in the evening the day after pollinating, so the blossom is protected for about 30 hours or so. I've seen people remove the button with no issue, but I just don't like messing with it.
I left the petals on our first year pumpkin and had it not been for me posting a pic in my diary and an experienced grower emailing me and saying "get the petals off of the blossom or it will rot" http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=134748
I feel sure I would have lost that pumpkin, because when I cut the petals off there was already brown slimy rot working on the button.

I cut it 5 days after DOP. Looks like Im going to loose it. Next one will not open for over a week. I might set one on a side. Man the 2009 is a tuff plant to grow. Thanks for the advise Cecil.

This is the first year i started cutting petals for no other reason than keeping dry. There has been so much rain and humidity. I also noticed the ear wigs love it in there for a shelter and I find them to be a real threat this year!!!!!
