I'm at the point now for terminating secondaries and my question is what is a safe number of secondaries to terminate per day that won't cause the plant too much stress. thanks for any help y'all can give....Erik.

Two per day is my norm, but a word of caution: Don't terminate them all. Leave one or two going throughout the season or at least through the dog days so that there is an outlet for the plant to relieve pressure. Foaming stumps were once a big problem for me until pap presented this idea somewhere on the message boards a while back and I reasoned it this way: Water in, water out. Water is simply a carrier of nutrients and has no nutritional value itself. If a plant's foliage flags, water has no way out of the plant through the stomata and a foaming stump is the plant's reaction to the need to relieve pressure.

Nutrients are not moving when a plant shuts down due to heat and this is why we see most growth occur at night when things cool down and nutrients are able to move again.

Spider vine patterns let you grow many secondaries longer than the std XMas tree pattern, this could help minimize the potential of developing a foamer...
