I put a post up on June 20th about pollinating a female late in the afternoon and so far at day 15 I couldnt be happier of the growth rate Ive been getting. So if this pumpkin makes it past the 30 day mark for me this might change the rumors myths that only females can be pollinated early morning for them to take. ( first 4 hours). Reason why I say past the 30 day mark is because the last 2 years I have had some really big pumpkins abort on me at around day 30. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=3&p=478875

Interesting as last year I pollinated one a day early. Wasn't until after I had done the job v.early that I realised I had forced it. Took fine but aborted on day 30.
Will be keeping a few going this year until after day 30.
Good luck Brooks

Thanks Dandy, I havnt figured out why alot of my pumpkins have aborted the last few years at roughly day 30 and after, so trying something diffrent and not adding a drop of anything to the plants, just going to let them grow on their own for a while and see what happens. Last couple years I would force pollinate a hour before the sun would come up and those where the pumpkins that grew extremly fast and really big for 30 or more days right out of the gate and then just stop abruptly and abort. Ive pollinated like that for about 5 years and never had a problem before also, these plants sure are hard to figure out. LOL

Im praying like h-e- double toothpicks- a 6 lobe popped out around noon, I didn't catch her till 3;30. She was a little wilty, but I dosed her good anyway......so far she is gaining two inches a day.

Handy, I cant recall the temp, Im guessing around 85 degrees at best, I do know it was the hottest time of the day and the sun was out, it definatly wasn't raining. Im still not out of the woods yet with this pumkin because I have been having trouble the last couple years getting them to grow past day 30's...if I can get to day 40 Im going to take a drive down to Shazzy's house with a couple Kegs of beer and we are going to celebrate!!!...lol
