With all the rain, we have mushrooms popping up everywhere. Do you see mushrooms in your patch as a sign of being way too wet and an invitation for disease?

I am growing in straight manure again this year and with all the rain we have been having I have several different kinds of mushrooms and lots of them. Is this an invitation for disease ? Perhaps it is; but with a good spray program you should be able to keep things under control.

I would take that as a sign of caution. Also if you eat one, and see funny things, you have cows in your patch.

Mushrooms have excactly the same benefits as mycorrhizae.
Actually decrease chance of disease and helps break down soil and builds stronger plant roots.

If you don't die, you may see the Great Pumpkin.

Don't breathe the spores, or you may become a fungus, too.

Now that you mention it, I had a couple off the edge of the garden. I haven't noticed any in the garden yet.

On a side note, anyone here grow mushrooms? If I had any shade I would. They kinda like their moisture and I don't have it here.

I grew shrooms a few yeas ago. Once you get the process it isn't too hard. They like humidity, 100% is about right. I always thought that one of those metal garden sheds would be great if the outside temps were right, If you are doing the medium inoculation yourself you need a clean room or laminar flow hood device. There seem to be kits out there now that you can just wet and stand back.
My question about mushrooms/mycorrhiza is-
Do all the fungicides that we apply above ground have an affect on the beneficial fungi below ground? Even if they are systemic there will be some over spray and leaching to the soil. Perhaps this should be another thread all together.
Sparcmat, apologies for the highjack! But I have often seen little shrooms in the patch and think that it means the soil is active and alive. Fungus on leaves, another issue.

Had a bunch sprout up here as well, even after WA's heatwave in the 90's. Good to hear they're not necessarily a bad omen; was worried as well!
