Plant is seems fine except for yellowing of the leaves. Every leaf has a slight fleck of yellow on the very tip of the leaf and there are some clusters of leaves that have much more yellow to them as you will see in my pics. It has a pumpkin set and the yellowing is getting worse. It has received top level care and has well amended soil. The plant beside it has had the same care/amendments and is fine. Should I give up on this plant?

Looks to me like you are missing a vital micro nutrient.

What have you applied recently to create the change...excessive K can affect nutrient uptake of magnesium, Did you get a boat load of rain recently like we have

The plant had some of this yellowing early on but I thought it was just from cooler weather. The yellowing has continually gotten worse as the season progressed even as the soil warmed. The puzzling thing is that the plant beside it is fine and they have had the same care. Wouldn't a nutrient problem effect both plants? how about nematodes?

Hi titanic-
You have something interesting going on for sure. With the information provided I have two guesses.
1.) Possible nematodes 2.) could be a low virulence virus
The virus comes to mind as they can cause yellowing in other crops especially raspberries.
So my questions back to you...
-Do you have raspberries growing near by? -Does the plant grow out of it or do the yellow areas remain yellow? -How quick is it spreading on the plant? -Is only new growth showing the yellowing? -Do you have a pumpkin set? (If so how old and does it look normal?) -Have you seen this problem before? -do you have a current soil or leaf test? -What is your general iron content in the area? -Does plant growth seem 'normal'?
That will at least be a start;-)

Thanks for the response. I do have raspberries nearby and some don't look very good. The yellow seems to stay yellow. It seems to have gotten much worse after setting a pumpkin 12 days ago, I have also had way too much rain the past few days. The pumpkin is 29 inches in 12 days, not great but growing. The vines are growing like crazy even as the yellow has persisted. I have never had this problem before and it is only infecting one plant in the patch. Soil test yes, iron was listed as adequate at 40 ppm via western labs. Plus I water with well that has iron in it. All plants have been treated with aliette, clearys, subdue, cease, rootshield. Thanks!

From what I see, the yellowing is only in the outermost new growth of the plant and that suggests a magnesium deficiency. I think an iron deficiency would result in yellowing of the leaves closer to the stump. what is your magnesium level titanic?

magnesium was low at 168 ppm but I amended with sul po mag and Epsom salt.

Hi titanic, I have the exact same problem as you. All plants in patch look great except one . They all get the same treatment. The symptoms are identicle to yours, yellow leaf edges, other areas of leaves are speckled with yellow.Amended with mag and iron for a couple of weeks now and no change, the first pumpkin pollenated aborted, rest of plant growing great Could this be something genetic??

Hi titanic-
With your replies I am sticking with my first two inclinations. However, I still am unsure if any of them are the diagnosis. I am going to favor the nematodes so personally I would look into possibly getting a nematodes screen done. As of right now I do not believe this to be a nutrient issue, so if nothing else that may eliminate a category.
More data is always good, so... Beurys11, what plant is showing the symptoms, there could be a pattern or it could just be a PA thing;-)

The plant that is showing symptoms is the 1770 Lieber, started shortly after transplanting out in patch.Like I said, growth on plant is great, first pumpkin aborted, pollenated second one today,I guess I'll just see what happens ,confused???

Well I am noticing a pattern...
I have a list of four different growers who are growing the 1770 Leiber all showing this odd yellowing. So there is the possibility that it could be genetic or a genetic predisposition to what ever factor results in this.
Very interesting when I see a pattern like this develop and at least at this point in time it is all on the same plant even though the locations are different.
Just adds another piece to the puzzle.

Since my plant is also 1770 Leiber maybe it is genetic? If I do a further test I will post the results. The plant and pumpkin continue to grow. Thanks for the responses. best of luck to all!

Had sent some pics to titanic which show my 1381 Delaney plant, it also exhibits this kind of yellowing, and now it is back to normal growth. The back-to-back planted 1655 Ford is growing green leaves without any yellow patterns. Even though it´s not a 1770 Lieber, the 1381 Delaney also has some 1495 Stelts genetics.

I had several plants do the same thing this year and then kind of out grow it I guess. Overall the plants are healthy.

I live four miles from titanic and my 1770 Lieber is doing fine--just pollinated with an 1140 Finders on Sunday the 30th. I will update if the pollination was successful or not and I only had one male 1140 Finders available so it probably will not be successful.
I'm not an expert, but it could be an iron or magnesium deficiency or both. I found that magnesium is important to photosynthesis because it forms the main atom of chlorophyll. Also titanic's PH is over 7.0 and at that level iron can be unavailable for absorbtion. I feel bad for the growers that are experiencing a problem with the 1770 Lieber, but I don't think it's genetics. Just my thoughts....

My 1770 was a runt so I pulled it. My 1495 has a couple of leafs like that. The plant is great otherwise

My 1770 is doing exactly the same whilst the other plants are fine. Looks exactly like Andy W's photograph. It seemed to become more prolific after pollination and is mainly affecting new growth and is on the end of nearly every vine.
I do have a raspberry bush near and some were dying back but I think that was due to a lack of watering as tehy are fruiting just fine. However, the 1770 is the only one affected.

Same 1770 problems here. 1770 has yellowing leaves while rest of plants are fine. No good male flowers and my first two pollinations aborted. Ron barker and Stan Pugh also had the same problems and already pulled their 1770's.
