Pardon my ignorance but are you suppose to remove the blossom stump by cutting it off or breaking or leave it on the fruit?

I would take off any of the flower petals but don't do anything with the rest of the blossom or you could crack the pumpkin.

Thanks for the link. Here in the land of humidity rot does set in quickly. Petals left only a couple of days start to grow hair and cause problems.

definate;y remove the flower a day after pollination but do not pull off the segments. sometimes the dried segments will take a bump and fall off but id be carefull to keep it all season if possible. pap

I pulled off the petals and then the next day I noticed the bottom part of the petal was still attached. So I gently pulled that off kinda reminded om of a O ring.I was real gentle.somebody asked me if I was measuring the kin to monitor growth to compare to others on plant.I havent touched the pumpkin yet.I noticed last year, when I touched my young melons on the hot humid days. There were dark spots on the skin.Plus I have scratched many a fruit with my clumsy hands.I think Dr Melon head will wear gloves(surgical) from here on out. This maybe TMI & off topic, but I hope it helps.
