I have seen multiple posts here where people said they would pull up any ribbon vine . Is there a reason other than wanting a good looking vine?

Ribbon Vines hinder overall growth of the sink. It is however possible to grow a plant with a ribbon vine by trimming it out. A pumpkin set on a ribbon can grow to well in excess of 1000 pounds.
I had one that did in 2010. It was a four part ribbon that had set a fruit on a node that was in fact right on the ribbon. Having no option left and only a couple of other plants I waited it out. It had lots of problems for sure. The vine cracked and needed constant care. I gave it daily disinfectant sprays and kept a fan blowing on it 24/7.
When it got to weigh-off the guys could not believe it made the whole season I left the first 6 feet on the vine to show them it was possible to grow a big pumpkin on a ribbon vine.

I wouldnt suggest you pull a plant just because of a ribbon vine.I grew a pb on one last year.I wanted to grow that genetics so I went with it.Pruned the plant when it was small and grew the fruit on a secondary trained as the main.
