Hey folks, I have one plant (1756 Lancaster) that has leaf stems with ridges of varying degrees depending on age of leaf. On some leaves the stem is actually indented around the ridges. Any suggestions on what this might be and how to treat it will be much appreciated. I have posted a few pics on my diary. Did find one post from Dale in Alaska who may have had something similar in 2011. My plant otherwise looks healthy, possibly going a bit too hard on nitrogen? as leafs are a bit large and dark green. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryView.asp?season=2013&grower=55465&action=L

There was a conversation about this topic in the chat room a month ago. I forgot what Andy Wolf said causes this but maybe he will mention here ?
I have many of those this year also.....

Have had plenty of all three lately. Though my other plants under same conditions are not showing this yet.

Not an issue in my opinion. I never noticed them being any weaker.

Yeah that's normal. I had always heard high nitrogen. Not a big deal.

I typically see this in patches that have high nitrogen. If the nitrogen level is slightly high then you can get plant to plant variability, but while this particular sign is not a red flag for anything, I suggest you monitor your additions of nitrogen to the patch.

Thanks all. I will lay off the nitrogen.

I would also stake each leaf stalk with a good indent , as it will crash down .. typically the early leaves..but definitely not a season ender
