I own the Honda FG110. Great little machines. I've used both and feel the Honda is of better Quality (Which Honda's always are). I felt the mantis bounced around more while the Honda dug in and cultivated better.
Great machines to help keep soil loosened in front of your vines but dont expect them to act like a real nice tiller.
No way will they loosen up hard compacted clay. They are made to be pulled, not pushed. I paid $350 new.

Mantis tillers are great for small confined spaces. I own one and would never consider doing more than small beds with it. using it in the patch would be like mowing the lawn with sissors. effective but just not the right tool for the job.

Although 'tested' in wide open spaces...I wouldn't use any of these for genral tilling or cultivation on an AG garden.

But... for vine burying/shallow weeding and work between vines they save a huge amount of time as plants are vining out.

I use the Stihl and it's seems like its tailor make for these sprawling giants once they start to vine.

I won't 'out him' but there's a great Sthil sales guy on BP who may chime in. last year sale price was cheeper than the Honda and Mantis and in my opinion is the best machine for the job...here's a comparison link-

All the best.

Last summer, i bought the Echo brand of the same type of machine. I love it. I agree with the other posts above, not for regular tilling, just for loosining up, minor weeding, tight spaces. Very light to handle. I think i paid $399 but worth every penny.

Ive had mine for over 18 years and still works good. Altho I did have to buy a new transmission for it from operator error. But it comes in handy.
