I am looking at getting some #12 cow pots. Anygrowers ever use them. I know they work excellent for tomatoes. http://www.freundsfarmmarket.com/cowpots.html

I have used cow pots. they function just like peat pots. they do seem to break down better once burried in the patch.

The only "negative" I have heard is a friend said he thought they were a little more resistant to breaking down than peat pots and he thought they had caused some root binding. Tomatoes don't seem to mind tight roots as long as you feed them lots, although they do better with a large root mass. If I used cow pots I would bust up the bottom before putting them in the ground just to make sure the roots could make a fast get away. With that said, this better resistant to breaking down could be an advantage for something that you may have to keep in the pot a little longer depending on weather conditions, like, oh say , a pumpkin?

I have used them and they break down much easier than peat pots with the root breaking easily through them.

we always take a pen and poke several holes in our peat (or cow ) pots before starting seeds. extra air circulation helps the seedling early on. also we peel off the pot ( make sure its moist ) before planting so we dont worry about decomposition. pap

I have shied away from using them just because the seem pretty pricey for a fancy piece of '$#it'. I have always just removed my pots carefully because I don't want anything to inhibit root growth. So until I can persuade my cow to prefabricate them for cheaper...
