ok, ive seen in recent posts that you should plant your own seeds. But im probably only growing the most of 2 seeds this year. should i plant my own seeds or the ones that i have? i think in my oppinion that i have a pretty professional lineup for a 2nd year grower. here are some of my choices for the year.
1775 Starr 2009 Wallace 1381 Checkon 1306 Jutras 1788 Daletas 1676 Daletas 880 Urena 1674 Connolly 1502 Wallace 1236 Harp
as you can see, i have alot of new seeds. but i also have a few older proven seeds. the reason i have picked the newer seeds is because of their cross and sometimes because of their shape. as i said in the beginning of this post, in my circumstances, should i plant my own 572 seeds?

You are constantly going back on your word. From what I have read in previuos posts, you have promised to plant Joe Jutras's seeds and im pretty sure you promised Ron that you would plant his in order to get it. Stick to your word.

How many are you growing? grow yours, cross something into it, next year cross something into that one! you may end up growing them all if they don't germinate. Also many growers germinate more than one and go with the one that is growing best.

Thanks for the help. I have not said I would plant any of the seeds tho I did say that I will try to plant these seeds. The problem I had was at first I wanted to plant 4 plants, so I sent out 5 bubbles. I didn't expect it but on average I got 3 seeds from everyone that sent my bubble back. To those of you who sent me back a seed I'm sorry if I can't plant it this year but I'm expanding my patch next year and I will try to grow the rest. Again thanks for the help and grow them big in 2013!

I try and grow some of my own seeds every year..This way I can see what the crosses I made last year bring.. Plus if you have no confidence in what you have done how can anyone else .

i think new growers looking for the best possible results should grow proven seeds from established growers.probably also a good reason why so many indemand seeds do well at auctions. once you have established your own identity in the hobby? and you weights get respectable? its time to plan and grow some of your own crosses.

Its funny that just about everyone out there is making great crosses and only a very few are growing their own seeds. I am planning on growing at least one of my own seeds every year from here on out.

I agree with Pap. I don't have a lot of space and nothing of mine is proven. If I grow my own and they don't do anything, I don't know if it's the seed or if it's me (probably me). If I grow something that has at least shown it can grow big, then I at least have an idea of what to do.

You will know when the time is right. I am growing 6 of my own this year, and I didn't send a single seed request out for personal use. If none of my six do anything special this year? Then I'll know it's back to seed requests and auctions for the 2014 season.

Bro I wish I Had your problem. I've only sent out 2 bubbles ever both in recent months and no luck. You have both my requests in your lineup. I think my mistake was only requesting the 2 seeds I wanted to plant.

@whisky: stay patient, sometimes it takes a while for the return bubbles to find their way home. Among my recent seed requests there had been two which just didn´t want to leave the first class plane, it took 5 weeks for one of them and 7 weeks for the other to come from the US to Germany. Maybe quarantine procedures in NZ could add another couple of days? Also, if the 2009 is among your favorites, Pap and Ron had sent out the last bubbles a few weeks ago...just give it another 1 or 2 weeks, it might still be on its way to you.

thanks for the help. whisky, one thing i have learned so far is that some bubbles come back to you in less than a week and others take months.I guess it depends on how busy the grower is.

Heres my take on growing my own seeds, I will probably never be a grower to set a world record as the top growers put in more effort and spend more money with their growing and good on them - It stems to a saying I use all the time with my Son - If it was easy everyone would do.
I will however put in the effort to grow well, and use many of the ideas and products that the big growers use but to grow at their level or at that level in any hobby or sport there are sacrifices to make and I have now reimersed myself in other hobbies I neglected for a while but will still grow. If by growing my own seeds I grow a 700 lber or a 1100 lber what the difference - In my mind none, my son and I had fun doing it, we were able to go to a weigh off and in the end only one grower comes first. My seeds have the cross from world record seeds so the prodigy is always there as well.
Good luck to all of you that put in the effort to be the elite growers and time you put towards growing, as long as we all have fun growing and that is the important thing in my mind.
