These seeds are guaranteed to grow an average of 1500-1700 lb pumpkin. With up to two fruit per plant. http://www.johnnyseeds.com/p-7225-dills-atlantic-giant.aspx

I'm not sure that's what they say. I think they say 50 to 100 pounds is commonly grown. It's not worded well, but I think they mean the seeds come from plants 1500 to 1700 pounds. (I could be wrong). Either way, getting seeds here is the best way to go.

What it says is "Large seeds, avg. 1,500-1,700/lb". That means there are between 1500 and 1700 seeds in a average pound of seeds. That is information for growers who are interested in purchasing a large quantity of these seeds.

I bought seed like this last year to grow AGs for the first time. I gave them 400 square feet and grew one fruit per plant. The biggest one was almost 100 lbs. Don't get those catalog seeds if you want to grow a nice big one. Go on the "Seed Exchange" board and request some seeds instead. I did that and got more seeds than I will even need this year, all for just some postage. The people on here are so nice sharing their seed and knowledge. :) Good luck this year!

I shop at Johnnyseeds.com for other things, but I think most places just don't realize what goes into growing GP's. I agree with Pumpkin Momma. Get them through established growers or an established club. Lot's of great people here.

With all the work trying to grow a big one,get some seeds from growers that hand pollinate fruit with the traits you want.Over the counter ag's are grown in a field-no control over mom or dad.

Depends on how you look at it...from a farmer stand point I need to determine my expected yield. If I plant 2 acres and get 10 pumpkins I have an issue

They are selling seeds by the pound, and a pound of seeds has about 1500 to 1700 seeds in it. Simple as that.
