Has anyone tried diluting roundup to treat an area planted with onions? Here in central CA we plant in the early winter and harvest in early summer. So I have young onion shoots that are too close together to mulch the weeds in and I am looking for an idea.

I don't think the round-up idea would work. What I would do is grow the onions until they reach a decent transplant size and transplant into rows or however you want them. Give the extras away or compost them.

I plant onions in groups of 4-5 and space the groups 1 ft. apart, they grow normal size onions, but the beauty doing it this way is ,you can get a hoe in around the bunches real easy. Try this, and you will never grow them single file again. I plant 3 of these bunches of onions across a 3 ft.wide row. Do the math, you get more production, in less space. Hope you give it a try, you won't be sorry. Terry
