Only seed I had not germinate. Sometimes that happens with a particular seed. Bummer

In my opinion sibb an self pollination in the problem. In 2011 season we selfed a 1325 Hopkins pumpkin. The offsprig in some case dont germinate and often the plants dont produce pumpkins.
Which is your opinion?

Home of happy lil plants

I don't remember where I saw it but for some reason I want to say pap said selfing to many times causes them to become sterile and he wouldn't self the 1385 a 3rd time(im taking notes pap).

So if a 1647 was self/sibbed you might want to ask if they have test germed one yet. Just something to think about

ron and i were fortunate that we got two 1647 seeds to go. not a great germinator thats for sure.

sorry to anyone that was depending on it for their patch.

we did get great results though with it though. both plants produced almost identical shaped and ribbed pumpkins.

rons grew over 1,600 pounds, we culled mine for an early weigh-off (1000+) because we were afraid of a plant problem spreading into the rest of the patch.

I got mine to germinate but it started having some weird issues a few days after sprouting.

I germinated two of them and ended up growing both of them. Both plants were good growers. Plant A made it to about 500 pounds and BES do to poor shape of the blossom end. The plant and pumpkin were great growers and even at 500 pounds it went heavy. I did self this one and got no seeds out of it.

Plant B lost the main to hail so I let it go. I ended up crossing several pumpkins into it. I grew 4 pumpkins on this one and two had good seed counts. 1647 Wallace x 1723 Marshall and the 1647 Wallace x 1303 Sweet. The pollinator on this one grew my 1450 this year.

I would grow the 1647 again if I had one, both plants were vigorous and had the appearance they could grow a giant. Plus, I like growing selfed seeds.

I had 3 not sprout or just barely started then rotted. I really wanted to grow it, but it didn't work out, just part of the game. In a way it is good to here others had the same problem and it wasn't something I done. They were the only seeds I had trouble with this year.
