As our current GPC president is coming up on his term limit the question of who is next has come up frequently. Dave has a great job promoting this hobby. Seen him on TV even, a few times. I dont remember ever seeing so much about giant pumpkins on tv as I have in the past few years.

So you may ask how and when does this all take place? Alot of people dont really know. I am in that category. Acdcording to the GPC by laws it is an election where individuals can run for the position.

Eligble runners are as described "1. The representatives that are eligible for the process of running, nominating
and voting for directors will include all recognized club/group representatives,
site representatives and site coordinators for the GPC in the specified region."

So now we kinda know who can run how can does that individual get elected?

"2. The Club/group Representatives, the Site Representatives, and the Site
Coordinator Representatives from each region will nominate at least 2 and no
more than 4 candidates to run for office. These candidates must be approved
by the Executive Committee."

And then the voting process

"4. Once the candidates running for office are determined, all voting
representatives will send their ballots to the Executive Committee for
tabulation. The person receiving the most votes cast will be elected. If there is
a tie, the voting representatives will vote again but only for the two candidates
that are tied. If a tie still exists following the second vote, the representatives
will conference until they can decide upon a winner."

when does this all have to be done?

"5. This election process will begin on the 1
st
day of November and will be
completed by the 31
st
day of December. The new director will be take office
on the 1
st
day of January."

so now is the time that Club/Group representatives should be selecting their nominees and so that the committe can vote by dec 31st. Let your club representative know your opinion since the GPC is a part of all our lives.

I'll be contacting my club representatives to see who they have in mind.

But for the record I would nominate Matt Debacco and Andy Wolf.

Thanks for your service Dave. I hope you accomplished all that you wanted in you time on the board.

Thanks for the confidence, Bry.

As far as the current board goes, there are two members up for renewal this winter (Jim and Ian). I will be contacting their regional representatives soon regarding their input.

The positions of pres, vp, ect are handled internally after that is settled.

See I didn't say vote here Don. And I stated that I was unsure how it was done. Andy replied with the info to clear it up. The bylaws made it seem that the clubs nominate and vote. But that is only for board members apparantly not president, vp, etc.

And as for someone nominating Amelio, if he met the requirements
His nomination would be valid, doesn't mean he would get voted in.

Thanks for clearing up the process gentlemen.

Seems like this information on th GPC is very hard to find

Thanks

All the information you need is on the GPC site. I'm sure your respective rep would be happy to answer any questions.

Most of the info is not hard to find, go to the front page of bp and click on GPS results, then go to official GPS websit, then GPS officers and it will list the representative for your region with contact info and when they started on the board. If I remember right there terms run four four years and they can only run two terms in a row for a total of eight years in a row. but they can be nominated again. Old Rookie You can go to the GPC page and you will be able to look your rep. Up, I believe it's Jim Sherwood.

Thanx for the replys;
My question was there are NO gpc reps in calif;

The closest gpc rep for our state is 650 miles away in another state

What steps need to be done to get a gpc rep here in calif
if possible?

Bry,
Yes this is my last year to sit on the Executive Committee & will remain on the committee through Las Vegas to help with the transition of a new president as requested by the entire Executive Committee.

Thank you for displaying the bylaws here for all to read but please remember the complete bylaws can be found here.

http://www.gpc1.org/index.php/join-gpc/gpc-bylaws

As we start the process to fill my soon to be vacated seat in the Great Lakes region, find a new member for Europe, & get a vote of confidence for the members in their midterm. I can't help but think of how hard it is to get people to step up & help. We all want to make things better but only a few actually step up & get the work done be it in their own club, weigh-off site, &/or the GPC.

There is one thing you left out Bry as what you have copied & pasted pertains to filling the seats in the regions of the GPC.

Article VI section 8:

8. After any election of a new director the Executive Committee will have an
organizational meeting at which they will decide, amongst themselves, which
directors will hold the positions of President, Vice-President, Treasurer,
Secretary, and Director-at-Large.

You are right Dave, I didn't read that. And apologize for any confusion. I stopped reading at term limits and it was my error.

I thought it was an election process as the question has come up many times amounst the community as to who will be next president. Andy straightened it out with his reply and as does yours.
