Seems like a lot of us hesitate on growing our own stuff.I was not going to grow my 1478.5 because it went lite. After a few weeks to think about it.Then I found out how thick the 1723 Marshal was when they carved it,10 to 14 inches, the entire green bottom was 7 inches thick.I have to grow it now.I also will grow Yukon(980) that tapped 880.The scales I used round down to 20 pd increments so it may have been 990 pds. This was Jackson Reeds male pollinator.I have to grow my own seed now.I should have anyway,If we dont belive in ourselves, who will?I will also grow the 980 hopefully the 1161 will take the deep rib out of the kin.If nothing else I should have some big orange beauty's.I will however cross these seeds with the 1495 stelts or the 1067 Kent heavy genes. What will you grow this year????

Every pumpkin has a little different genetics and when crossed with a different male ( vs self pollinated ) may be significantly different. So you may grow your own seed and see it turn out chart heavy next year Mark. Sometimes we have to roll the dice.

I will grow my 1313. It's 1495 Stelts X 1404 Bryson. It seems like seeds grow better sometimes in the same patch they came from. Kind of like seeds that produce better in hotter climates often come from hotter climates.

The only year I've ever not grown at least one of my own seeds was the first year I started growing, for obvious reasons. If you're not brave enough to grow your own seed why bother making a cross in the first place?

I will be growing my 1107 (1678 Hunt x 1634 Werner) again and its offspring 1509.5 (1107 PSweet x 1789 Wallace) may be a couple of each. Also going to grow my 1404.5 (1725 Harp x 1807.5 Stelts) I really am starting to think that your own seeds are better acclimated to your own soil. 1107 seeds were huge, 1404.5 seeds are huge, compared to some of the ones I have aqquired. Possibly my 1021.5 also. (1676 Checkon x 1725 Harp)

Its hard not to try other growers crosses-esp. when there were so many big ones this year. However nobodys a better judge of their own crosses. If you like the traits in both parents-grow your own.Ive got one cross this year that I'm going to try.

It's funny that every year lots of people are worried about what to cross with what and then never grow the crosses they made. The best thing I like about growing my own seeds is that I can start 10 seeds and pick the best two to plant out and then reduce that to the best one. This is a huge advantage in my opinion. Next year I'll be growing 2 of my own from this year and one other one that will make a good cross into them to create some genetic diversity.

I hear you Mark .. I'm definitely planting my 771 ( 1213 x 1723), HD award winner.. which was basically the 1610 lieber x 1634 werner, since both parents were selfed.. it was grown in 250 sq ft area .. I'm hoping for big and orange next year..lol..plenty of free seeds if anybody is interested

planted my 980, was not disappointed! :) It's a mental thing. Your head says,"Is my seed really good?" And than a little doubt comes in your head after seeing so many other seeds with great crosses. Ignore the doubt and just do it. I only grow one fruit a year, and if I can do it, anyone can.

Yes I only found about 50 seeds in Yukon(980).Gotta grow it.I need to work hard all winter. Then I can take the summer off & grow 11 plants like Quinn.I will rent the neighbors yard.Maybe sell the tractor to pay the electric bill.No wait, that wont work.lol My EVIL plan is starting to unfold.lol Anybody want a 980 I will give out a few, then save the rest in case its a record breaker.I will grow 1 of each of my 2012s

Who knows better than you the characteristics of a seed that was grown in your own patch..Make your "dream" cross and then grow it..I believe proven seeds do have an advantage..BUT..remember many dark horse seeds just needed to be planted..I was never disappointed by growing one of my own. Good Luck!!
