What is the definition of a Rookie?
A rookie is a person in his or her first year of a sport, or someone that is new to a profession, training or activity such as a rookie cop, rookie pilot, a recruit, or occasionally a freshman.

Shannon according to the GPC rule a rookie is someone who's making their first "official" GPC entry.

that might be what the GPC says but I think a rookie is some one growing AG's for there first time. Wouldn't seem right to grow them for 5 years and never weight one at a weight off then show up with a 1500pdr on the 6th year and call your self a rookie.
650lbs, It had an ott of 338 so it went extra light

Well here's my opinion. My rookie year I busted my hump and got 4 or 5 pumpkins to GPC weigh offs. 968 being the best. I thought that was an accomplishment and would have loved to be considered for ROY. My thoughts are that clubs or weigh offs should be able to nominate a rookie of the year contender, submit to GPC by end of season, listing their accoplishments and qualifications, and let them choose the winner based on that. Not just 1 pumpkin, 1 weight. You cant do it on a 3 Pumpkin average like GOY because most rookies might not grow that many, and that would single them out. Of course it creates more work and is not a simple easy award like now. I just think this would be a better representation of a true ROY.
