Congrats to these guys for dominating all 4 colorado weigh-offs this year. Between the two of them, they won all 4 contests, and took the top two positions in 3 of the 4 weigh-offs. If you are an inexperienced grower in the region, go talk to these guys as they are a wealth of informtaion.
But watch out guys, the BIZ is back... he's back baby! so watch out for him next year!

Not in my book you're not Joe - thanks for all your help.
Can't forget to mention Wiz for putting all 4 of those Colorado weight-off together - I suspect, that's a lot of work. Thanks Gary.
And Biz, my baaaaaaaaaaaack is hurting from spreading all the manure Barry delivered. Not to mention, I feeeeeeeeeeeel like a fool for collecting leaves all over the city! ...he he he...all in fun - Betsy

there are many theories as to where the BIZ has been. Some say he has been placed in the witness protection program and is gone forever.... others believe he took the year off to conduct research for the Dept. of Agriculture studying the symbiotic relationship between elk and squash bugs.... still others believe he has faked his own disappearance to build yet another "Secret Patch"....

I think he's been to Eddy's and joined forces to plot the downfall of the Biz.

Congrats to my fellow growers South of me. They are truly amazing growers and willing to provide advice.
Three cheers for Wiz and all he does for this hobby. His dedication is truly amazing and I know his luck will change next year.
Yes, I think Biz is back.
I bet Pete grows more and larger pumpkins than he ever has before now that he has moved.
I look forward to another growing season and PLEASE PROVIDE ME WITH ANY HELP GETTING MY PUMPKINS TO WEIGH TO CHART.

Thank you for your kind words Pete. I can't help but think of the most formidable Colorado growers, who are in a sense---absentee for 2012. You Pete, are foremost on that list! For those of you who don't even know the "Biz"'s real name, he's Jimmy to me, and his absence this year has also been a truly giant absence of tremendous talent in growing giant pumpkins! Then there's Marc Sawtelle. I don't think anyone in Colorado has grown the number of 1100 pound range pumpkins than Marc! Not to mention ( okay, I will!)-- Marc was in the top 5 in the world when he grew his 956 Sawtelle Squash! After 5 years he's still " The Man" when it comes to Colorado squash. That's world class green! Then there's the ultimate absentee Colorado grower---The Tumbleweed himself. For you newbies, ( yes, if you've been growing giant pumpkins less than 30 years, I consider you all newbies, ha,ha)---- you might not have known that the most formidable Colorado growers of all time are Pete and Cindi Glasier. I kinda set my ultimate pumpkin growing goal by whatever Pete and Cindi's highest weight has been. And those rascals just raised the bar for me again. These are the Colorado growers who continue to inspire me to keep on pushing for higher & higher weights in a really adverse climate! By the way Pete, I forgot to ask you if we should all now call you Fort Collins Pete?

Oh, and Pete--- if you move again in the next several years, I guess we could call you and Gina: Tumbleweeds II.

CongratZ goeZ out to Joe Scherber our 2012 Winner for the Rocky Mountain Giant Vegetable Growers Traveling Trophy this year. Joe grew the top pumpkin at 1225 this year.
Nice Job Joe. Not an easy year to grow here this year, but Joe did a great job.

Great job Joe & Barry. It's not easy to get that many pumpkins that large with the weather etc the way it was.

Correction on Marc Sawtelle's 956 Squash. It was #14 in the world in 2007. Still very much world class, & grown at about 6000' elevation!

Oh, by the way Jimmy, no need to send any deer or elk. We've already got a pretty sizable population of them. They stood just outside my pumpkin patch this summer, looking longingly at all that food----I learned a long time ago that you've got to build high fences to keep them out! The rabbits you dropped off are multiplying & moving ever closer to the patch! And squash bugs? They arrived safely and proceeded to infect my 319 Mohr, and the 50 Todd. So good of you to care and share! lol!
