Does anyone have this figured out?

I'm thinking it's going to be close between Peter Sweet Jr. and the defending champ Martins? Anyone else have a shot at the title?

im pulling for peter sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet because that guy logged more miles and attended more weigh-off locations than a tractor trailer driver on crack.
besides he makes a wicked smoked pork sandwich.

Maybe that needs to be part of the competition? I know Martins did 5 weigh-off's in 5 weeks...lol.

So it looks like BIG pumpkin goes to Peter, squash to Martins, long dong goes to Peter, Tomato goes to Martins, Field pump to Martins, Mellon to Peter.

Most categories these 2 growers are very tight. But it does look like there's lots of daylight between Peter and the Martins in the mellon category. I'd think this may seal it up for Peter. Of course that's assuming there's not anyone else ahead of Peter.

My reading of the GPC rules of this category show that this is not a head-to-head competition. It comes down to how well you do against other growers in the GPC weighoff you attend:

Master Grower: Awarded to the grower who has the best all-around showing in combined categories (Pumpkin, Squash, Long Gourd, Field Pumpkin, Watermelon, and Tomato). A minimum of 5 out of the 6 categories will be required, and will be based on the following points system: The first place specimen in each category will each receive an amount of points equal to the total number of entries among qualifying growers of the category with the largest number of entries. Each subsequent placing will be awarded one less point than the entry ahead of it. A grower's total number of points will be the deciding factor of the award.

In the event of a tie for first place, the winner will be chosen from the finalist(s) as follows:

1. If a world record record was broken in any category. If more than one finalist breaks a record, the win will go to the grower who broke the previous record by the largest % margin.

2. If no world record was broken, the win will go to the grower who reached the closest to the existing recognized WR in any category as a % of the weight/length of their best specimen.

Thus, a lot of it comes down to others at your weighoff. If there are 10 tomatoes in competition, that's a big difference as opposed to 3 other tomatoes at the weighoff.

Or, maybe I read that wrong... The first time I read it, I thought that it was based around individual weighoffs. Now, I don't see it. Never mind.

It looks like mr sweet is ahead of the martins-if I figured correctly -cause of the big point spread gained in giant pumpkins and watermelons.I hope I figured correctly-dont slash your wrists.

Its going to be a tight one I think. A point or two in either direction. It all depends on how may entries are in between the both of us in each catagory. Yes as Cojoe and Chris pointed out, I have a larger margin in those 2 catagories for people to slide in, I know for instance, Caleb and the Hunts have a pumpkin in between us which helps me, and I think they both are qualified. but then there could be someone else in between us in one of the catagories they are leading (like Tomato) to send a point or 2 back the other way. Thats Andy's job, when all the weighoffs are over and he has some time to relax and get to it. No rush. But I do like Chris's proposal for a bonus catagory about traveling and weighoffs. I'll second the motion and take an extra point!! LOL. 9 competitions for me and 1 with my daughter in 6 weeks. An 8hr trip to PA/Ohio tour, Team Pumpkin tour in CT, New England tour in RI, several other spy tours to Ct, and RI. (thanks Gene and Norm). My warantee is almost up, I've only had the Sierra 15 months!!! WOW..

I'll be crunching the numbers after this weekend, if all the GPC site results are in so I don't miss anything.

Competition is good. Makes the game worth playing. We invite others to join in. Second or last place is better than not trying.

BTW, I love this award. Seeing it last year in Vegas made me want to try it. To do it well, I think I need to be retired, lol. But someday... Congrats to both of you!
