I've been wondering if any of the top growers had smaller pumpkins in their patch that we don't here about. For instance someone who grew a 1600+ lb. pumpkin, and also had one or more below 1000 lb. using similar soil, vine management, etc.(during the same season as well). This might demonstrate to some degree, the different genetic potential of individual seeds.
Exampes would be appreciated.

Thanks, but I don't think I was clear on what I was looking for. I was wondering if someone like Ron Wallace, Quinn Werner, or any of the heavy hitters, have some plants that produce subpar pumpkins, compared to their best ones for the season. even though they were given pretty much the same treatment as their biggest pumpkins.
Ron W. or pap, if you see this, what's the smallest pumpkin you grew this season?

Doug .. nice question.. I often wondered that my self .. but I'm thinking when the top growers have a plant that isn't producing at their standards, they just pull it .. especially when growing multiple plants.. I think that is why you don't see 1600, 1500, 1400, then 700.. just my 2 cents

i weighed my 1647 offspring at i believe 1,036 pounds at the earliest ct weigh-off.
the plant had signs of disease so we pulled the plant right away.
all plants put in do not grow monsters. every once in a while ya get a dud or two.some keep um some cull um.
no experienced grower is so good that everything they plant turns into a monster.they have their failures as well.
