Just as the title says I am wondering if anyone grew a 980 that they selfed. The offspring of the 980 has to be the best looking pumpkins out there and the best way to continue that trend would be to self it right?

ask for a 980 im sure if it had a good seed count he would share my thought is if you want orange and can get the seed that grows it why try a selfed seed and chance it we know the 980 throws nice red fruit im even considering it for a cross i want to make guess its like the old saying if its not broke dont fix it

Actually I was able to get a 980 from Jim to plant next year but i was just looking ahead, the shape and color of those are fantastic. While I would like to grow a world record realistically that's like me winning the lottery so the second best is a BIG Pkin that looks good.

Jim grew his 980 x self and grew an amazing fruit! Take a look at his diary and check out his now 1116 Fredricks! New record for his area!

I grew his 980 and pollinated it with the 985 Werner and grew a round, smooth skinned, bright orange fruit that is taping at 956 lbs. we'll see in a couple weeks when it makes it to the scale :) if it makes it :):)

Jim was nice enough to give me a few more seeds and its hitting my patch again next year!

duane,

I did self the 980 this year. It weighed 1116, 1% heavy to the new 2012 chart, a new san diego county record. As long as I have seeds when the fruit is opened, you are welcome to have some. I still have some 980's to give out as well, so feel free to email me if you want one. Jim
