2009. Really? Seriously? LOL. And we haven't even seen the majority of the BIG events yet!

Here's some more food for thought. I took the WR's 2005 through current. Then I took the average of the next 5 pumpkins and found the difference between that average and the WR. So for example 2005 WR was 1469 Checkon. The next 5 pumpkins averaged 1372 or 7% less than 1469.

The % difference was as tight as 2% and as far as 8% when Ron hit 1502 in 2006! 2007 was 6%, 08 was only 2%, 09 was 4%, 2010 7%, and 2011 was 6%.

So if I throw out the lowest and highest our average difference is about 6%.

Therefore if 2009 holds as the WR our next 5 pumpkins should AVERAGE about 1895. YES 1895. If 2009 doesn't hold up it will likely go above 1900. Again if 2009 holds 1895 should be the average weight of pumpkins 2-6....LOL.

If the Brysons and their frog (how can we forget the frog?) hold onto a spot in 2-6 the balance of the 4 top pumpkins....will average....wait for it......

1930! That's right 1930 for an average for the top 4! I hope the folks from out west can deliver!

Oops....1930 will have to be the average weight of places 2-5....not the top 4 :)

Chris,
It is starting to feel like I have just completed a time trial and am currently in a podium position but knowing that there are still 5-6 riders out on the course. The next 2 weeks will be exciting.

I ran those same numbers a few years ago Chris, and you're spot on with your thinking. Can't wait to see what happens in the next couple weeks.

And I find it very interesting that giant pumpkins are no longer on average orange.

Speaking of the Brysons, congratulations to them on being the first and only growers with two over 1700.
Something that might change this weekend.
