New Bremen, Ohio

The New Bremen Pumpkinfest was started by pumpkin growers who wanted to put on a show for growers and their families. While we didn't give the highest prize $, we tried to give the growers a great event to participate in. While it started as a weigh-off, it has now grown into a 2 day festival. Giant pumpkins is in our DNA as a festival, but the lack of growers this year participating has caused us to cancel this year's weigh-off. We struggle with funds as much as any group and rely on our generous sponsors. Without them, we would not be functioning as a group and need to make sure we put on a great weigh-off to keep our sponsors happy. It's been a terrible growing year and hope everyone next year has a great season.

We apologize and hope next year brings better results.

Anyone that wanted weights on their pumpkins, I would be happy to host a makeshift weighoff at my place. I can get you a certified weight with my tractor and hanging scale. No prizes, but maybe we can go hang out at the bar after.

Don't count out New Bremen yet...he has had a lot of feedback and may bring it back if he has the fruit! Let him know if you are coming and we may be back on!

Sometimes the size of pumpkins coming in could affect a weighoff. I'll say this before I start, I've only met jeff twice & don't know the story but the idea of cancelling a weighoff due to large pumpkins can be validated.
The New Bremen weighoff doesn't hold auctions on this site nor does it try to sell seeds on this site so I'm guessing all prize money is sponsorship. Say someone goes to a sponsor and says if we were to get X amount of dollars I can guarantee world class pumpkins but due to unforeseen problems you don't bring those in are you leading that sponsor on.
I'm sure there are good reasons for cancelling but I just wanted to give a little insight on how the size of pumpkins may affect things when ALL your money may come from sponsors.

Size has nothing to do with it Tony.

It is the number of pumpkins being weighed.

We contacted our 4 biggest sponsors which is about 90% of the prize money. They advised us to cancel the weigh-off.

If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me.

Very sorry to hear it Jeff. I have no pumpkins to weigh anywhere due to the wrath of Mother Nature and can very well understand the lack of numbers.

No big deal guys. I have a tractor that runs and a scale. I just thought that some of you may have picked your pumpkins like I have.

Tough situation for Jeff. He tried real hard to make it work, I have talked several times with him as he was trying to make it work, its just a ton of work for a strapped club to do to have 5 little pumpkins show up.

We'll make sure anyone that wants to make the drive can at least get a weight and a beer. Maybe drink a beer and put on weight I should say :-)

I know it's rough this year. I really wanted to bring one of mine but I have a college trip with my son Saturday so I couldn't. I've been bummed out about not being able to go because they do a good job running it.

But this could be the doom for future weigh-offs there if they tik off the growers they may not come back thats all im saying

Yea, but if 90% of your prize money is sponsorship money and they aren't happy that you go on with it anyway you risk losing your sponsors. We all know sponsors are not easy to find.
So upset your sponsors and risk no money
or upset a few growers who will come back anyway if they have a great year the next year & need a weighoff.

That's unfortunate Jeff, I was going to bring three. If there wasn't prize money I'd still come. Don't even need a forklift to move my woppers!
