Years ago I was given a package of seeds.
WHITACRE 718 10 1462 Holland x Self 33% Heavy
(not a clue what I'm reading)
I planted the 2 seeds and 1 plant is taking over my yard.
I finally have pumpkins actually growing and appearing healthy. Besides my lovely wife tossing miracle grow all over the place, is there, something else that I should be doing?
I'm not looking to break any records, unless there is 1 for the city. I have a video. http://youtu.be/gIWvw6KXhFE and would appreciate any feedback.

Whitacre grew it, 718 was how much it weighed, 10 as in 2010 was the year he grew it, Whitacre used a seed from a Hollands pumpkin that weighed 1462lbs, he used a flower from the 1462Holland to pollinate it (selfed), when the 1462 was weighed it weighed 33% more than the average for that size (you can measure a pumpkin and get its average weight)

You could find a giant pumpkin weigh-off in your area, go to it and ask questions, you could also use the search bar here.Google this, www.PGPGA.com I know there is a weigh off site in Altoona PA You could go to the diarys section, read growers diarys.

Miracle Grow has salts in it that build up in the soil if used very much. This build up will slow natural biological processes and cause your pumpkin to grow less than it otherwise would. There are other products that will add needed NPK and other necessary nutrients without adding the salts. If your soil is deficient, Miracle Grow will help you to grow a bigger pumpkin but there are other products out there that will do a lot better job. Most of the big time growers on here wouldn't use Miracle Grow if you paid them to.

I seen some powder mildew in the video. Go to the store and get some systemic fungicide like infuse or Fertilome.

And just have fun. and watch it grow. Don't over do it
