Ok so I'm sure that I'm missing something here but why in the heck would some one pay $305 for 1- 1161 Rodonis or $90 for 1- 991 Urena. When there are seeds out there from pumpkins that weight way more than that selling for less than $10
Like I said I'm sure I'm missing something here so could some one throw me a bone

It has little to do with how big the kin was the seeds came out of and a lot to do with the genetics in the seeds and their proven ability to grow giants. For instance the 723 Bobier was highly sought after not because of it's size but because the seeds had a solid reputation for their ability to grow record breaking fruit.

Not trying to Harp ( LOL) on any one I'm just tring to figure out if I should drop some coin on a premium seed when all I really want is a 1000 ponder each year. It's great that the money from seeds go to the weight offs, I didn't know that.

The seed isnt going to give you a thousand pounder it is the effort you stick in your soil...and Prevention of bugs and disease You can buy a $1,000,000 seed and not get 1,000lbs Its all genetics, and effort

Dropping some coin on a good seed, wont do you any good if you do not have your growing area and soil in top condition first.
I have a hard time spending hard earned cash on seeds, but have been fortunate to be able to get quality seeds to grow.
1161 Rodonis is my top performer ever..coincidence? Not!!

We are supporting clubs & some very impressive prize pools when we buy seeds. It's not about the money it's about supporting the sport we love.

Brosco, you can get quality seeds for the price of a SASBE if you work at it a little. Most growers on here will share seeds from their own pumpkins freely if you will just ask them. But I hope you will help support the numerous seed auctions of the clubs represented on here, if you get a chance.

Supply and demand also plays a role. There's only a limit supply of any seed.

Speaking from my own experience.... Ill spend good money on a seed for the following reasons:
The online Seed auctions are fun and I feel spending a large amount is going to a good cause to raise funds for growers groups, plus I hate to be outbid and I can afford it and well ok ill admit drinking wine while bidding just doesn't mix, haha.

Some times when you pay more for a seed at auction with great proven genetics.....you will go out of your way to get your moneys worth. Also helping the clubs generate money is another reason to fork up some dough for a seed you want....proven to have more gusto than some others......glad I paid a hundo for the 1303 seed I am growing this year....I am sure I could have networked one some how, but that is what auctions are for. We hope others feel the same when we hold our auction.

Self Addressed Stamped Bubble Envelope (SASBE) when growers offer seeds for free in the Seed Exchange you send them a bubble envelope with postage on it, when they get it they put the seeds in it and send it, your paying for the envelopes and postage.

WiZ, just post your comment a 3rd time and I´ll be inclined to also offer some help with getting this seed planted... Well, Handy offered some great seeds for trade (seeds which are and will be grown by many many many many other growers, and none of them had grown a 2000-pounder out of them), whereas I could offer seeds which haven´t been grown yet, seeds full of...I don´t know what...maybe full of surprise.

Bosco, 1161 and 1725 seeds are just a dream seed unless you have big money or you have proven yourself to be a good grower. I personally would love my chance to grow either of them. My second year ended early, so now we will have to try next year to be a proven grower. I agree with the preparation and genetics are the key, but you must have hard work too. I participate in the drinking and auction mix too, unless it is while running the MPG auction, lol. I would be willing to wrestle Handy for the seed, lol.

Very impressive and I'm starting to see why but it kinda seems like other seeds would get over looked that might also have that genetic potential but you only get one time of year and can only pick a few seeds so you want the best chance. Plus I was thinking about it and when you buy a seed from a site it's always crossed with one of there seeds and not pure
