If there is one it'll probably show up at Halfmoon Bay. Looks like they're putting up the doe this year!

im sure there are a few out there that have a chance. but its a long way to weigh-off day and,for those that have a shot? all share the same feelings and expectations that go with this timeof the season.

last year ron had the ride of a lifetime with his 1725 harp seed (1789 est late august) and it all went in the crapper.
it happens and, is all part of being at the top of your game.the biggest does not always make it to that finish line.

our best to all who have a shot. not for the faint of heart.

Richard I don't think it will happen this year here. At least unless I can go about 5% heavy...LOL.

However, I've heard VERY LITTLE complaining about the weather from the guys from the Ohio Valley and east this season. I'm guessing there will be a HUUUUUGE Top 10 avg at the OVGPG this year. Over 1550 easy. I also think the east coast will land at least 3 over 1700.

Of course that's all my best guessing at this point.

Check in on Damariscotta, Maine GPC weighoff on Sept 30...rumors are one grower had 3 taping at over 600 pounds at 32 days.....he's broken the record here before....

I do not think many of us would be surprised if we see one this year after what we saw last Sunday in RI

I am guessing three over 2000#'s. Being a bridesmaid on this will suck.
2010, 2030 and the winner 2075.

three? we will be lucky to see one.the odds are just stacked against it happening.
to many things can go wrong even in late aug and sept.

I had been thinking that it was going to take a couple more years to get there, but now, I'm not so sure. With the weather we had this summer, I have personally seen the growth it takes to get in the ballpark. And if I can get it, there are probably dozens of others even better, lol. This cooler spell might be the thing that holds some back, we shall see.

I don't think people realize just how "pointy" 2000 really is.

There have been 3 pumpkins weighed over 1725...lol. So all of a sudden we are going to weigh 3 over 2000?

We are also getting close to the top of the bell curve so the likelihood of big jumps (183 is a huge jump) is low. What Jutras did in 2007 will not happen again IMO. We are simply too advanced.

By the sounds of it the weather out east / Ohio Valley is 2007 like so could be epic, but I just don't think 2000 is going to happen this year. I do think 1900 is likely to go down.

I am finding out the last couple years that the weather is no question the limiting factor to achieving top growth. Sure a guy can grow a slug of them in the 1200-1400 range with crappy weather in these parts, but to achieve that top weight the weather is the limiter. It's frustrating to see the midwest getting the short end of the stick again this year, but it is what it is. I had my chance in 2010 I guess.

My forecast for 2012 is as follows:

1600 will be more common than 2011. 1600 will now become the new 1000. There will be a handful of official fruit over 1700, and maybe another 5 over 1800. Of those 5 one or 2 could threaten 1900.

i love to study seeds and their performance over the years.
looking at the 991 urena for example the largest grown off this 2005 seed before 2011, was the 1535 root, with that said, almost every top grower has tried this seed, even mr urena's best has been the 1470, now we look at 2011, wow, he gets his 2005 seed to 1704! what has changed? nutrients?
weather? luck ? you tell me. just a few years ago everyone said you could not reach 1500, then look what has happened since christy's 1725. if you look at the weather factor then you must include dale marshall, and all the growers that grow in a green house? would this be the future for all growers that want to compete on the world stage? more questions than answers. my brain hurts, lol. scott

My guess is that this year the record will not be broke but come close with maybe a 1810

I think a ton is a good 5 to 10 years away, just a guess but I think the limits of the giant pumpkin are being tested. And records will start to be won by 5 or 10 lbs and the days of 50 and 100 lbs breakers are over. Like I said just a guess

Hope I'm wrong, "would love to see one the size of a Buick"

A few years ago I thought a 2000 pound pumpkin was many years away. The results from the last few years have changed my mind. I think it's possible this year. I agree, the weather needs to be favorable for it. A lot of things need to go right for it to happen.

8/22/2012 8:43:59 PM

WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR

So. Maine

Their is a possibility that MORE than one 2000 pounder could be harvested from the same patch . Not saying it will happen just sayin .

Time will tell ...

Pretty familiar talk. Every year at about this time you hear about a beast from the east or rumors of a fruit with an OTT of 450 or better. It's gonna happen but from who may be somewhat surprising.... like last year.
